Newsletter January 2020.
The new school year started on January 2nd. All the parents came to bring their children and were cleaning the school garden. This is compulsory as there are many dengue cases in Sri Lanka. Teacher Manori visited our school with her husband to show their baby. She is now 4 months old. A beautiful shabby baby girl.
Ine Lems from NL came for her annual visit of 3 weeks in the Deaf School. She is very well known to the children and staff, she feels very comfortable to be with all of us. She donated a lot of school materials, furniture for the first class etc.
She was also invited for the wedding of teacher Piumi on January 20. The wedding ceremony was in the afternoon in the church and the reception was later in a beautiful restaurant in an old rubber estate.
The annual sport’s meet, organized by the Lion’s Club was on Jan. 26. The pupils were enjoying it very much. Simon Nieuwenhuyzen from NL also was present. He donated all the fancy dresses for this event for the children. They looked beautiful and got a lot of prizes.
On Jan. 28 four staff members and a group of eldest children climbed Adam’s Peak. This is an annual event. They came back with nice stories, muscle pain and beautiful pictures!
During this month we got a lot of visitors from the Netherlands.
The new Director of Social Services WP came to bring certificates and presents for the 8 winners of the contest to make wall hangers. This event was end of last year.
