International Day for the Deaf was celebrated on September 23. A few teachers and students from every Deaf school in Sri Lanka were invited for a varied program with information and dance performances. It was organized by the Social Services and Education Department in Colombo.
The climate crisis was also clearly noticeable in Sri Lanka. The monsoon rains came a month early and heavier than we were used to. Many floods and landslides were the result. In the south all schools were closed because all roads were flooded and buses could not run.
Several schools also provided shelter for all the people whose houses were flooded or had disappeared in a landslide.
