The Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf in Moratuwa started in 1984 with 8 deaf pupils under the care of Mrs. Tineke de Silva-Nijkamp from the Netherlands. She met her Sri Lankan husband, Susiri de Silva, when he studied there.

In 2019 January Mr. Mudithe De Silva , The Son of Mr. & Mrs. Susiri & Tineke De Silva – Nijkamp took over the Deaf School as the New Director. Mudithe is graduate from Edith Cowan University Australia and holds a MBA from University of Westminster, London. Mudithe is also a Member of SLIM Sri Lanka and a Former Lecturer for an Australian University in Colombo , Sri Lanka.
Mrs. Tineke de Silva-Nijkamp is the Founder Principal.
Further there is a Director, a Vice Principal, 3 senior teachers, 3 teachers, 1 assistant teacher, 2 matrons, a speech therapist, a computer instructor and an accountant.
For the extra classes we have part time teachers who come to the School. That is for dancing, cookery, graphic design, sewing & embroidery classes, art and drama.
The daily meals are provided by our School Kitchen.
