On the second of February 2019 it was 35 years ago that the Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf started by the Founder Mrs. Tineke de Silva-Nijkamp from the Netherlands. The first day there were 8 deaf pupils, 2 teachers and a matron.
In the years to come the Deaf School became a huge Deaf Institute with 100 deaf pupils.
The celebration of the 35th Anniversary took place on February 16th, 2019.
The parents of the deaf pupils were helping to organize this special day.
There were 170 people present: parents, deaf children, staff members, board members of the School Trust and well wishers.
20 Buddhist Monks were invited for the Dana Lunch. In a beautiful procession they came walking from the nearest Temple to the Deaf School. Under the Monks was also a Dutch Monk, Ven. Olande Ananda, a good friend of the School. The Dutch Ambassador, the Patron of the Deaf School, Mrs. Joanne Doornewaard, was one of the Chief Guests.
All the guests enjoyed the Ceremony and the delicious lunch in the Deaf School.
On January first 2019 Mudithe de Silva was nominated the new Director of the Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf.
He takes over the life’s work of his mother, the Founder Mrs. Tineke de Silva-Nijkamp, who was 35 years active to run this Deaf School. The coming years she hopes to continue her life’s work.
