The month of July started with late monsoon rains, which again caused a lot of flooding in various places in Sri Lanka. Our school garden was also flooded and the drains overflowed. The rain caused many mosquitoes that can cause dengue fever.
Ms. Gayathri of the youngest group, received her Montessori Diploma on July 6. She is currently 7 months pregnant and unfortunately cannot continue working after the birth of her daughter, because she lives too far away. She worked here for 5 years.
On July 12, the mother (52 years old) of Menaka (pupil) and Nirmal (former pupil) passed away. She was deaf, just like her husband and 2 sons. The last few years she was also blind due to an eye disease. We went to the funeral with the staff members and a few children. Nirmal was her deaf son, a former pupil of our school, who died in a train accident last year.
We celebrated several birthdays this month. Chamalka, Shehan, Dhara, Chathubani and Mudithe de Silva (director).
The test week for the reports started on July 23. On this day, Dutch people who work at Auris (Kentalis) in Rotterdam, also came to visit our school. There was a positive exchange of experiences from both sides.
On July 30, 2 ladies came to our school to offer a lunch for the children and staff members.
On August 2, the vacation started and all the children went to their village for a month.
