Newsletter June and July 2023
June 7 was the last day of the O/Level (MAVO) exams. The parents of our deaf candidates came to our School on June 8th for a farewell party and they also brought food for a delicious lunch for everyone.
Dance teacher Rashmi is busy rehearsing 3 new dances for a dance performance with our deaf students in November next. The dance costumes that go with it are designed by Rashmi and we have a lady near the school who will make them.
There were again many birthdays these months, which we celebrated nicely. From Vice Principal Mala, Mudithe de Silva (Director) and the students: Shehan, Sehansa, Chamalka and Chathubani.
Fortunately, we found a sponsor for Nirmal’s family, who died in a train accident on April 1. We now go monthly to his poor parents (father deaf, mother blind and deaf) to bring rice, lentils, coconuts, sugar, etc., so that they have enough to eat.
One of the youngest students (Nethuni, 6 years old) received a cochlear implant in early July. She’s fine. Now just wait and see what she hears with it!
The test week for the reports was the week of July 24. The deaf students go home on August 4 and return on September 4.
