Sad news, April 2023

Our former student Nirmal, who took his MAVO exam last year, was hit by a passing train at a guarded train crossing on March 24 and suffered severe brain injury and several broken bones. He has since been in a coma in the ICU of the General Hospital in Colombo, where he passed away on April 1. There was a lot of sadness in our Deaf school because Nirmal still came to Moratuwa every Sunday to spend a day in our school. His brother Menaka, also deaf, is still a student in our school.

Nirmal was a very nice boy and much loved. He was excellent Art and Graphic design. He had just started his new job in Graphic Design 6 weeks ago. Recently, on 5 March he had turned 21 years old.

He leaves behind a deaf father, a blind/deaf mother, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

On April 3rd. was his funeral, which was attended by many former students of our Deaf School.
