On July 3rd the Dutch Ambassador, H.E. Mrs. Joanne Doornewaard, visited our Deaf School to say Good Bye, as she is leaving to Seoul in Korea. She was 4 years in Sri Lanka and was the Patron of the Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf. By her farewell she donated a Printer to the School.
We got a nice surprise, a sjoelbak , from the Firma Nienhuis, a Dutch Factory in Sri Lanka who makes Montessori Materials. The deaf children were very enthusiast and play now everyday this nice typical Dutch game in their free time!
The NVQ-3 trainees were sitting for their exam on July 10 & 11.
A new Matron, Deepika, started working in the middle of July.
We had the farewell party of Chathu, our deaf class assistant, who is a past pupil of our School and was working for 5 years with the deaf pupils. She is going to marry in August. She can’t continue her job as she is living far away.
In the cookery class the children were making pan cakes. This time the youngest group was enjoying to do this exercise.
Mudithe de Silva’s birthday was celebrated on July 22nd with a nice party.
A new class assistant (Gayathri) took over the job of Chathu in the mean time.
Pubudu, a deaf boy of 4 years, came from this month twice a week with his mother to School for speech therapy and to get use to the place. Unfortunately they have to travel 4 hours, but he likes it and we saw already progress.
On July 29 the eldest pupils got an extra cookery class to make chocolate cake with Aminah, a student from England. She visited the Deaf School before. She brought also some family members and together with all the pupils and staff members they had lunch in School.
The parents came to school for a Parent’s Meeting on August 1st and took afterwards their children home for the school holidays.
