Newsletter June 2020.
This month we were making the school buildings and garden corona & dengue-proof.
All the staff members were present for the last 4 weeks. Only 2 teachers travelled daily home, all the others stayed full time in school for corona safety. It was a cozy time. There was a lot of work to attend to but it was done with a lot of laughter.
In the free time they were together making pizza’s, puddings, pancakes and fruit drinks.
Mudithe and Pathum made already a power point ready with information for the parents and children about the corona pandemic and the new rules and regulations in the Deaf School.
The letters to the parents were posted and later we will telephone once again all the parents for the final rules. The eldest deaf pupils will come back on July 6th, the youngest group one month later.
When the deaf pupils come back on July 6, they wear a mask and are dropped by the school gate by their parents. We take the temperature of every child, they go with their shoes will be disinfected, they wash their hands and go to take a shower and dress in new clothes. The old clothes are disinfected. We have the 1 meter rule everywhere: in the dining hall, bedroom, class, outside in the garden etc. The yoga and rhythmic lessons will be organized daily outside from 8-9 a.m. on advice of the Education Department as the children need Vitamin D.
The lockdown period in Sri Lanka was from March 20 till May 26. Because of this drastic rules the corona infections were kept low. Only 11 people died in Sri Lanka of the corona virus with a population of 22 million people.
